A point is a single dot in a sketch. It does not make a shape, so Extrude ignores it, but it marks a place. Its main job is to show Hole where each hole goes: put a point where each screw or dowel hole should be.
How to use it#
- Click the face where the holes go, then click Sketch.
- Click Point, or press ..
- Click where each hole goes. A point you click on a line stays on that line.
- Use Dimension to place each point exactly: click the point and an edge of the part (dashed orange) or the origin, click where the size goes, and type the distance.
- Click ✓ Finish sketch, then Hole.
Tips#
- Hole also puts a hole at the centre of each circle in the sketch.
- To put a point in the middle of a line or an edge, select the point and the line and click Midpoint (M).
- To space several points evenly, use Pattern in the sketch, or Mirror them across a centre line.
- A point can be the centre for Pattern → Around a point (circular pattern): select it last.
If it does not work#
- There is already a point there. You clicked on a point that is already in the sketch.
- First make a sketch on the face and put a Point (or a circle) where each hole goes. Hole found no points or circles in your sketches.
