Make photo-real pictures of your design with timber, acrylic and metal materials, on your own computer, with no AI and nothing uploaded.

The Render Studio makes photo-real pictures of your design for your folio, a poster or a post. You choose a real material for each part, such as Tasmanian Oak, plywood or clear acrylic. Then SchoolCAD traces how light bounces around the scene, so the picture starts grainy and gets sharper.
It all happens on your computer: there is no AI and nothing is uploaded. Your choices are saved with the design.
How to use it#
- Click Render in the top bar (or Export, then Rendered picture (Render Studio)).
- Set up the view: drag to turn, right-drag to move, scroll to zoom. Part Studio view looks from the same angle as the Part Studio, and Fit frames the whole model.
- Under Materials, click a part (or click it on the picture) and choose its Material, colour, grain and finish.
- Choose a Scene, then the picture Size and Quality.
- Click Render. Click Stop when it looks good enough, or wait until it says Finished.
- Click Download picture. Click Close or press Esc to go back.
Options#
Materials#
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Material | Timber (Radiata Pine, Pacific Maple, Tasmanian Oak, Jarrah, Walnut), sheets (plywood, veneered, raw or painted MDF), plastics (acrylic, polypropylene, 3D print PLA), metals (aluminium, stainless steel, black steel, brass, copper), paint, rubber and clay. Each part starts with a material that matches the one it has in the Part Studio. |
| Colour | For materials that come in any colour, such as tinted acrylic or paint: click a swatch, or pick any colour. |
| Grain | Which way the timber grain runs. Auto runs it along the longest side, or choose X, Y or Z. End grain shows on the ends. (For brushed metal this is Brush lines.) |
| Finish | Oiled (satin) or Gloss coat for timber and sheets, and Satin or Gloss coat for paint. |
| Use for all … parts in … | Gives every part with the same Part Studio material this look. |
Scene and picture#
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Scene | Light studio, Dark studio or Workbench. |
| Light direction | Moves the main light around the model. |
| Brightness | Makes the picture lighter or darker. |
| Explode | Moves the parts apart, to show how they fit together. |
| Size | Fit the screen, HD, Instagram square, A4 landscape or portrait, or A4 print quality (3508 × 2480 pixels). |
| Quality | Draft, Good or Best. Better quality takes longer. |
| Denoise | On smooths out the grainy dots, so even a Draft looks clean. |
| Background | Scene keeps the studio or workbench. Transparent saves a cut-out picture with a soft shadow, ready to drop onto a folio page. |
Tips#
- Turning the view during a render starts it again. After it has finished, any change goes back to the quick live view until you click Render again.
- Brightness and Denoise change the picture without starting the render again.
- If a render has finished, choosing a higher Quality carries on from where it got to.
- Try Draft first to check the view, then render with Good or Best.
- If you download before you click Render, you get the live view picture, not the photo-real one.
If it does not work#
- This browser or computer does not support WebGL 2, which the Render Studio needs. Try an up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
- There are no visible parts to render yet. Make or show a part in the Part Studio first.
- It is very slow. Choose a smaller Size or Draft, keep Denoise on, and click Stop when it looks good enough.
