Help Making and sharing

Share as a link

Send your design to your teacher or a friend as a link. The design travels inside the link, so nothing is uploaded.

Share as a linkShare––

Share as a link packs your whole design into a web link. Paste it into an email, Teams or Google Classroom. Whoever opens it gets their own copy of your design in SchoolCAD, with its feature tree, to look at or change.

The design is packed into the end of the link, after the #. That part of a link is never sent to a website, so nothing is uploaded or kept on a server, and nobody needs an account.

How to use it#

  1. Type your name at the top of SchoolCAD, so people can see who the design is from.
  2. Click Export, then Share as a link.
  3. Click Copy link.
  4. Paste the link into an email or a message.

Open the link in a web browser. SchoolCAD opens the design as a new document, as your own copy, and says who it is from. Your other designs are not changed.

Your copy and the original are separate. Changes you make to your copy do not change the original, and changes to the original do not change your copy.

Tips#

  • The link holds the design as it is when you make it. If you change the design, make a new link.
  • Under the link, SchoolCAD says whether it is short enough to paste anywhere.
  • To hand in a design as a file instead, use Save file (see Files).

If it does not work#

  • Make something first, then share it. The design is still empty.
  • A long link. It works in email and most messages. If one cuts it short, use Save file instead.
  • This link is very long, probably because of an imported file or picture. Imported STEP files and pictures make the link too long. Use Save file instead.
  • That link could not be opened. It may have been cut short when it was copied. Ask for the link again, and copy all of it.
  • This browser could not make a link. Use Save file instead.
