Render picture (PNG)

Save a sharp picture of your model just as you see it in the view, with a studio, white or clear background.

  • Render picture (PNG)Export menu

Render picture saves a picture of your model exactly as it looks in the view: the same angle, zoom and display style, but without the planes. It is quick, and good for folio pages, booklets and slides.

For a photo-real picture with timber grain and real materials, use the Render instead.

How to use it#

  1. Turn and zoom the model until it looks the way you want. Hide any parts you do not want in the picture.
  2. Click Export, then Render picture (PNG).
  3. Choose the Size and Background, and tick the options you want. The preview shows the result.
  4. Click Download PNG.

Options#

OptionWhat it does
SizeScreen is the size of the view on your screen. High is twice as big, and Print is four times as big (up to 4096 pixels on the longest side). The size in pixels shows under the options.
BackgroundStudio is a soft white-to-grey background. White is plain white. Clear is see-through, so the picture sits straight on a coloured folio page.
Floor grid and shadowShows the floor grid and the shadow under the model.
Edge linesKeeps the dark edge lines of Shaded + edges. Untick it for a smooth, shaded look.

Tips#

  • The picture uses the view's display style (the menu beside the view cube), such as Shaded + edges or Hidden lines.
  • The picture is always light, even when SchoolCAD is in dark mode, so it looks right on paper.
  • Move the Explode slider first to show how the parts fit together.
  • For a flat, straight-on look like a drawing, click Persp to change it to Ortho (no perspective).
  • For a picture of one part, right-click it and choose Hide others.

If it does not work#

  • Make a part first, then render a picture of it. There are no visible parts yet, or they are all hidden.
  • Part of the model is cut off. The picture is the shape of your view. Click Fit (or press F) before you open it.
