CombineBoolean (Union)Combine (Join)Combine (Add)

Combine joins two or more parts into one part. Use it when separate shapes should be one solid piece: a handle and the box it sits on for a 3D print, a leg and a foot turned from one blank, or two boxes that make an L-shaped bracket. The parts must touch or overlap.

It is Boolean with Union in Onshape, Combine with Add in SOLIDWORKS, and Combine with Join in Fusion. In SchoolCAD it has its own button, next to Subtract, Intersect and Split.

How to use it#

  1. Click Combine.
  2. Click the parts to join in the view, or tick them in the list. Click a part again to take it out.
  3. Check the preview, then click ✓ or press Enter.

Options#

  • Parts to combine: the parts that become one. The new part keeps the name, material and colour of the first one picked.

Tips#

  • To keep parts separate but fitted together, as real timber parts are, use Joint or Mate instead: a cut list and a drawing need each part on its own.
  • To cut one part with another, use Subtract.

If it does not work#

  • Pick two or more parts to combine. Click at least two parts.
  • You need two or more parts to combine. Make the second part first.
