Wrap takes shapes or text drawn on a flat sketch and wraps them round a round face of a part, like a label round a can, then raises them out of the face (emboss) or cuts them into it (deboss). Use it for a name round a pen, raised letters on a bottle, a pattern cut into a handle or a logo on a round box. It works like Wrap in SOLIDWORKS and Onshape and Emboss in Fusion.

Wrap is an Advanced tool. To put a picture on a face without changing its shape, use Decal.

How to use it#

  1. Make the part with a round face, such as a can: a circle on Top, extruded.
  2. Start a sketch on a plane that runs along the round face, such as Front for a can standing on Top. Draw the shapes, or use Text, where they should go: across from the face, at the height you want them.
  3. Click Wrap. The round face the shapes are drawn across from is found for you; click another round face to wrap onto that one instead.
  4. Choose Emboss (raised) or Deboss (cut in), and type the Height or Depth.
  5. Click ✓.

Options#

OptionWhat it does
SketchThe sketch with the closed shapes or text to wrap. Every closed shape in it is wrapped.
FaceThe round face. Found means it was worked out from where the shapes are drawn. Click a round face to choose another.
Emboss / DebossRaised out of the face, or cut into it.
Height / DepthHow far the shapes stand out (emboss) or go in (deboss), in mm.
On the far side of the faceWraps the shapes round the back of the face instead, still reading the right way round from there.

Tips#

  • The shapes go on the side of the face you see when you look at the sketch. A shape drawn 30 mm across from the middle of the face ends up 30 mm round the face from there, so the lengths stay the same, like a label.
  • The shapes can go at most half way round each way. A shape as wide as the face's way round (π × the diameter) goes right round.
  • On the wall of a hole, emboss adds to the wall (into the hole) and deboss cuts into the wall.
  • For lettering, a bold font and a height or depth of 0.6 to 1 mm print and machine well.
  • Wrap works on the mesh engine; a part wrapped is not exact any more, so add it after fillets and other exact features.
