Move face moves round faces in or out by a distance, so a hole gets bigger or smaller, or a shaft fatter or thinner. Use it on a part you did not model yourself, such as a motor mount bought in as a STEP file, when its holes do not fit the screws or bearing you have. It is in Advanced mode, in the Hole ▾ menu.
It is Move face with Offset in Onshape and SOLIDWORKS, and Offset Face in Fusion. To move a flat face, use Push/Pull.
How to use it#
- Click the arrow next to Hole, then Move face.
- Click the inside of a hole, or the side of a shaft. Click more to resize them too; click one again to leave it.
- Type the Offset: how far the face moves, on the radius. + makes it bigger, − smaller. 0.5 mm makes a Ø6 hole Ø7.
- Check the line under it (such as Hole Ø6 → Ø7), then click ✓ or press Enter.
Tips#
- A hole made by your own Hole is easier to change there: double-click it in the feature tree.
- To close a hole completely, use Fill hole.
If it does not work#
- Type how far to move the face: + makes the radius bigger, − smaller.
- That would make the hole Ø6 smaller than nothing. Use a smaller offset.
- That face is not round all the way. Move face resizes round holes and shafts.
- A face to move has gone. Edit Move face and click the faces again.
