IntersectBoolean (Intersect)Combine (Intersect)Combine (Common)

Intersect keeps only the space where all the picked parts overlap. A classic use: extrude a car's side profile across a block, extrude its top view down through the same block, and intersect the two. The result has the shape of both, like a bandsaw blank cut from two directions. It is in Advanced mode.

It is Boolean with Intersect in Onshape, Combine with Common in SOLIDWORKS, and Combine with Intersect in Fusion.

How to use it#

  1. Model the parts so they overlap.
  2. Click Intersect.
  3. Click the parts in the view, or tick them in the list.
  4. Check the preview, then click ✓ or press Enter.

Options#

  • Parts to intersect: the parts whose overlap you keep. The result keeps the name of the first one picked.
  • Keep the other parts as they were: ticked, the other parts stay as well; not ticked, only the overlap is left.

If it does not work#

  • Pick two or more parts that overlap. Click at least two parts.
  • If nothing is left, the parts do not overlap. Move them so they do.
