Corner breakCorner break–Break Corner

Corner break rounds or cuts off the corners of a sheet metal part. The corners are rounded on the flat sheet, so the flat pattern you send to the laser has them too, and the folded part has no sharp corners to cut a hand on. It works like Corner break in Onshape and Break Corner in SOLIDWORKS.

Corner break is an Advanced tool.

How to use it#

  1. Make a sheet metal part, with its flanges and tabs.
  2. Click Corner (Corner break).
  3. Leave Every corner that points out ticked, or untick it and click each corner to round (click a picked corner again to drop it). Click an inside corner to round it too.
  4. Choose Rounded or Cut off, and set the Radius or Distance.
  5. Click ✓.

Options#

OptionWhat it does
Every corner that points outRounds every outside corner of the sheet that has room for it; a corner too small for it (where two flanges were closed together, say) is left as it is.
Corners clickedMore corners, such as an inside one: the edges through the sheet's thickness at a corner of a wall. Clear unpicks them.
Corners areRounded: a round corner of the radius you set. Cut off: a straight cut across the corner, its distance along each edge.
Radius / DistanceThe size of the round, or how far the cut runs along each edge. Too big for the edges there, and it says so.

Tips#

  • Only corners where nothing meets the edges can be broken: not where a wall bends into a flange.
  • Round the corners after the flanges and tabs: a flange added later on an edge next to a rounded corner starts where the round ends.
  • A radius of 3 to 5 mm is a good size for a hand-held bracket.
  • An inside corner (one that points in) can be rounded too: click it.
